I've been in private chiropractic practice for almost 22 years. I first practiced in Oak Harbor, Washington where I became interested in treating injured workers and ergonomics related injuries. I began learning about the cumulative damage that develops over time with many work and home jobs, and which can result in those mysterious aches and pains many of us experience. I completed my Masters Degree in Public Health to learn ways to intervene and prevent injury in populations of people. I then pursued a PhD in Exercise and Movement Science from the University of Oregon, focusing on preventing fall injuries in frail elderly by enhancing muscle strength, and examining the biomechanics of the lower extremities. My years of clinical practice and academic training have provided me with a broad understanding of pain and injury.

"In my practice I review the functional causes of pain and discomfort. In addition to orthopedic and neurologic tests, I evaluate posture and gait and review work and home activities to identify the root causes of pain and injury. These frequently result from muscle imbalances which develop over time.” Care is comprehensive and includes tailored exercises for rehabilitation and prevention. Dr. Hess treats people of all ages from birth through older adults.
